As announced in the 2025-2026 Budget, the Government is implementing an innovative strategy to combat mosquito-borne diseases by adopting the Sterile Insect Technique. This method involves releasing sterilized male mosquitoes into the wild to mate with females, thereby reducing the mosquito population and limiting the spread of diseases such as Chikungunya and Dengue.

Sport – Excitement filled the air on Monday, 14 July 2025, as the finals of the Inter-College Sports Competition officially began at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex. This major event brings together 11,357 students from 155 colleges across Mauritius and Rodrigues, competing in five disciplines: Athletics, Badminton, Football, Volleyball, and Table Tennis.

Centenarian – Idriss Rumjaun marked his 100th birthday on Saturday, 12 July 2025, during an official ceremony held at the Social Welfare Centre in Caroline, Bel Air Rivière Sèche. Surrounded by family, friends, and several government representatives, he was honoured for his remarkable life journey and longevity.

Society – On Friday, July 11, 2025, a new variety of cauliflower named “Local Cream” was officially launched in Réduit. This variety is the result of a collaboration between the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as part of a research programme that began in 2016.

Society – Young people with disabilities were in the spotlight during the musical show "Spektak Talan Mizikal", held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute auditorium in Moka. The event, initiated by the Mauritius Recreation Council (MRC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, aimed to offer a platform for artistic expression while fostering the social and cultural inclusion of youth with disabilities.

Culture – The 9th edition of the Rodriguan Cultural Day was recently held in Pointe aux Sables, highlighting the richness and authenticity of Rodrigues Island’s culture. Organised by the Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture Trust Fund in collaboration with the Mouvement Solidarité Rodrigues, the event brought together artists, artisans, and tradition enthusiasts around a shared goal: to promote and preserve Rodrigues' unique heritage.

Success story – Born on 2 December 1981 in Charenton-le-Pont, Josef Schovanec is a French philosopher, writer and traveller. Diagnosed with autism at the age of 22, he is a passionate advocate for the inclusion of autistic people. Aged 43, he works at the Catholic University of Louvain, in Belgium, where he serves as a pedagogical support advisor. On the occasion of Autism Awareness Day, he was in Mauritius where he led several conferences. We had the opportunity to meet him

Centenarian – Mauritius has welcomed a new centenarian in the person of Chow Yin Kwok Tak Hing, who celebrated her 100th birthday on 5 July 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones at Le Paradis Hotel, in Le Morne.

Centenarian – Marie Suzanne Louise Félix reached an exceptional milestone by celebrating her 100th birthday on July 3, 2025. The ceremony was held at La Cannelle restaurant in Domaine Les Pailles, attended by several government members and local personalities, organized by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity.

Centenarian – Mauritius honoured its newest centenarian, Pierre Joseph Guy Gnany, on the occasion of his 100th birthday celebrated on 29 June 2025 at his residence in Curepipe. The ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, took place in the presence of his family, close relatives, and several official dignitaries.

Miss India-France 2025 – Her name is Riya Ramjattun, she is Mauritian, and she was recently crowned Miss India-France 2025. A victory marked by immense emotion, but also great pride for her country of origin, Mauritius, which she represented with grace, intelligence, and commitment. This title, beyond the crown, embodies the success of a determined young woman, connected to her roots, open to the world, and resolved to make her voice heard for causes close to her heart.

Centenarian – Born on 25 June 1925, Marie Anne Macaque was honoured on the occasion of her 100th birthday during a ceremony held on Saturday, 29 June 2025, at the Salle des Fêtes at Plaza in Rose-Hill. The event took place in the presence of her family, friends, and several official guests.
