Launch of the sterile insect strategy
As announced in the 2025-2026 Budget, the Government is implementing an innovative strategy to combat mosquito-borne diseases by adopting the Sterile Insect Technique. This method involves releasing sterilized male mosquitoes into the wild to mate with females, thereby reducing the mosquito population and limiting the spread of diseases such as Chikungunya and Dengue.

Energetic kick-off for the 2025 inter-college sports finals
Sport – Excitement filled the air on Monday, 14 July 2025, as the finals of the Inter-College Sports Competition officially began at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex. This major event brings together 11,357 students from 155 colleges across Mauritius and Rodrigues, competing in five disciplines: Athletics, Badminton, Football, Volleyball, and Table Tennis.


Launch of the “Local Cream” Cauliflower
Society – On Friday, July 11, 2025, a new variety of cauliflower named “Local Cream” was officially launched in Réduit. This variety is the result of a collaboration between the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as part of a research programme that began in 2016.


Young people with disabilities shine on stage, without barriers
Society – Young people with disabilities were in the spotlight during the musical show "Spektak Talan Mizikal", held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute auditorium in Moka. The event, initiated by the Mauritius Recreation Council (MRC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, aimed to offer a platform for artistic expression while fostering the social and cultural inclusion of youth with disabilities.


Traditions, skills, and identity: Rodrigues shines bright
Culture – The 9th edition of the Rodriguan Cultural Day was recently held in Pointe aux Sables, highlighting the richness and authenticity of Rodrigues Island’s culture. Organised by the Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture Trust Fund in collaboration with the Mouvement Solidarité Rodrigues, the event brought together artists, artisans, and tradition enthusiasts around a shared goal: to promote and preserve Rodrigues' unique heritage.
