The MTC Jockey Club (MTCJC) announced on Tuesday, July 16, that the start of the 2025 horse racing season has been officially postponed by one week. Initially scheduled for July 26, the season is now set to begin on August 2, 2025, pending final approval from the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA).

This postponement comes at the request of trainers and in consultation with the GRA. It takes into account the need for certain operators to be properly licensed and connected to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) system. The MTCJC explained that the decision aims to ensure sufficient participation of horses to allow for a competitive and fully compliant start to the season, meeting all regulatory and operational requirements.

As part of the preparations, mock races will still take place on July 26. A limited number of spectators will be invited to attend, and vendors will also be present in an effort to recreate the atmosphere of a typical race day at the Champ de Mars.

In his statement, Santosh K. Gujadhur, President of the MTCJC, expressed his gratitude to the public for their understanding and said the club is eager to welcome back racing fans for a new season filled with excitement and strong performances.

With this delay, all eyes are now on August 2, in the hope that all conditions will be met for a smooth and successful start to the 2025 racing season.
