The horse racing calendar for the 2025 season, submitted by the MTC Jockey Club (MTCJC), has been officially approved by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). In a press release issued on Friday, July 11, the regulatory body confirmed that the schedule has also received the green light from the Commissioner of Police’s office, subject to all safety measures being in place.

The season will kick off on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with a highly anticipated race: The Duchess of York Cup (G2, 1400m), reserved for newly introduced horses. A series of major race days will follow throughout the year, culminating on December 20, the scheduled date for the final race meeting.

Key highlights of the calendar include:

  • Race Day 2 – The 150th Anniversary Cup (G3, 1365m), August 2

  • Race Day 6 – The Bicentenary Cup (G2, 1600m), August 30

  • Race Day 7 – The 175th Anniversary Cup (G3, 1850m), September 13

  • Race Day 8 – The Barbé Cup (G1, 1600m – WFA), September 27

  • Race Day 10 – The Golden Trophy (G2, 2200m), October 11

  • Race Day 12 – The Maiden Cup (G1, 2400m – WFA), November 9

  • Race Day 13 – The Princess Margaret Cup (G1, 1400m – WFA), November 16

  • Race Day 16 – The Duke of York Cup (G1, 1600m), December 13

In total, 17 race meetings are scheduled, with strategic breaks included to allow proper recovery for the horses and smooth operations throughout the season.

This announcement marks a significant step in the full resumption of racing activities in Mauritius, following years of institutional tensions and uncertainty around the organisation of the sport.
